The 35000 Litre Gravity Fed Drum Filter Kit is a complete filtration system for koi ponds of up to 35,000 litres. It includes the Oase Compact-L gravity fed drum filter with moving bed biological filter chamber, along with a pump chamber, perfectly paired UV clarifiers, filter pumps, and air pump.

Drum filter technology is game changer when it comes to koi pond filtration. Drum filters not only clean themselves but also have the amazing ability to remove even the smallest solid waste particles from your pond water. This massively reduces the organic load in the pond, making for outstanding water clarity and quality. What this means for you, is a sparkling pond and healthy and extremely happy fish.

The ‘moving bed’ chamber of the Compact-L contains hundreds of tiny Hel-X 13 Biomedia. These high surface area media are specially designed for maximum colonisation of filter bacteria. These friendly bacteria break down toxic organic waste rendering it harmless. The built-in aeration fed by your air pump, causes the filter media to churn – hence the name ‘moving bed’. This ensures an even distribution of oxygen and pond water to filter bacteria for optimal biological filtration performance.

The 35000 Litre Gravity Fed Drum Filter Kit is a ‘gravity-fed’ system. Gravity fed system are set up so that the water in the filter is the same level as in your pond. Water is pumped out of the filter to your pond, and displaced water returns to your filter via gravity – usually through bottom drains and pond skimmers built into the pond.

The kit includes two Bitron Premium 60W UVs and two AquaMax Eco Gravity 10000 filter pumps which are housed inside the pump chamber provided. This setup allows you to draw water from two bottom drains or one bottom drain and one pond skimmer.

Gravity-fed system should not be confused with ‘pump-fed’ ones. They are set up differently, with filters located above the pond at a higher level. In this case water is pumped up and out of your pond to your filter, and returns via gravity.

Gravity-fed systems have the advantage of being able to draw solid waste such as sediment from the very base of your pond using bottom drains, and from built in wall skimmers. However this does usually mean building a pond with integrated plumbing – typically with reinforced concrete base, rendered block walls, and fibre glassed throughout.
